Katerina upsets American skater

Reigning world champion, Rosalynn Sumners was the overwhelming favorite for the gold medal but Katerina Witt upset the American skater with a strong long program.  Rosalynn performed a beautifully artistic program earning a 6.0 from the Italian judge.  However, her technical marks were lower. She experienced difficulty with a triple toe loop that she doubled and she also singled a double axel.  Despite Sumner's mistakes, it was a close decision as only one tenth of a point separated the two skaters.
